Dubai Autodrome is a multi-purpose motorsport and entertainment complex located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The complex boasts state-of-the-art facilities. The Dubai Autodrome plays a significant role in the motorsport scene in the Middle East

Throughout this workshop, you will get to experience Motorsport just like the pros. You will get to shoot from various locations across the circuit in the company of Mike Widdowson. Mike has photographed for 24H for 8 years and is extremely experienced with both this particular race event plus the circuit. There is no one better than Mile to guide you through the very best photo spots!

You will get the opportunity to photograph a variety of touring cars including GT3, GTX, Porsche 911’s and more.

With qualifying sessions along with a night time practice session, you will get the opportunity to really practice and hone your motorsport photography skills and techniques throughout this workshop.

Access to the circuit hospitality at all times.

Lunch and dinner on all days. Lunch and dinner will be offered as a varied buffet, which includes salads, main courses, desserts, snacks and a variety of hot and soft drinks.

Midnight snack on the Saturday night during the race.

Mike Widdowson is a very experienced motorsport photographer, covering events trackside for 10 years, including 8 years covering the 24H Dubai.

Mike has covered from Grass root National series all the way up to World Endurance Championship races around the world.

Sports cars is really Mike’s speciality, where he really looks to bring the viewer in and put them beside him with his images and live the race through his eyes.

Mike has worked with clients such as McLaren, BMW, Aston Martin, as well as many other teams and drivers. These world leading brands have all worked with Mike over the years so it’s safe to say you will be able to learn a lot from Mike’s experience of photographing the world of motorsport and especially endurance racing, such as the Barcelona 24 Hour Race.

GT3

GT3 cars abide by a set of regulations mantained by the FIA for grand tourer racing cars, designed for use in various series throughout the world.

GTX

GTX is a group of cars which have been added to create a wider variety of cars.

Porsche 911

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) cars.

GT4

In the GT4 class, the specific GT4 regulations are applicable. Same as GT3 cars, these cars must be based on mass production road cars.

TCR

TCR-homologated car which is based on 4 or 5 door production cars, and are powered by 2.0 litre turbocharged engines.

TCX

Special Touring Cars and some GT-cars with approximately the performance of TCR cars.

TC

The performance guideline of the TC class is: Cars that are slower than class TCR and TCX

Media accreditation all weekend.

Experience life on the media side of the fence with an all access media pass. Photograph from prime trackside locations along with pit lane access.

Pit lane safety training along with the do’s and dont’s of working trackside will take place in Dubai on the Thursday PM. This will be a mixture of 1-1 and group training.

Get hands on professional photography tuition from seasoned motorsport photographer Mike Widdowson. Mike has photographed the 24H Dubai as an accredited photographer for 8 years and is extremely knowledgeable about the race weekend, format and circuit locations.

Learn Motorsport composition skills, working with different lighting conditions including nighttime photography sessions, the best camera settings for fast moving action, different techniques such as panning and motion blur, capturing creative silhouettes, focusing techniques and editing advice, working on the media side of the fence.

Group and 1-2-1 photography tuition throughout the weekend.

*Please ensure that you have the appropriate travel insurance in place at time of booking in order to cover yourselves in the hopefully unlikely circumstance that you find yourself unable to attend the workshop.

Camera Equipment:

DSLR or Mirrorless camera system ideally with a choice of lenses. We suggest a decent telephoto lens such as a 70-200mm as a minimum, 24-70mm or equivalent and if you have one a 16-35mm. Also an extender if you have one. We also suggest a longer lens, 300mm+. This could be either a prime or zoom lens.

Prime lenses are also a lovely addition if you have them both telephoto and wide angle.

A monopod.

Filters - NDs and Polariser.

Plenty of fully charged camera batteries and plenty of SD cards.

Other accessories such as: Rain cover, chargers, battery power bank.

A decent camera rucksack is recommended.

Outdoor Clothing:

Waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, fleece, comfortable tops, comfortable shorts / trousers, comfortable trainers, flask, water bottle.

Please bring appropriate clothing for long hours spent outdoors at the race circuit. The weather may change multiple times during the day.

To get the most out of this photography workshop you should have a basic level of photography knowledge along with being comfortable using your camera.

You should also have a strong interest in motorsport photography and be looking to learn and improve on specific skills relating to Motorsport photography.

There are a number of insurance companies who will provide short term cover for public liability insurance.

You can secure your place on this motorsport photography workshop with just a £500.00 deposit.

The balance payment is due 12 weeks prior to the workshop start date.

An email will be sent out 2 weeks prior to this reminding you of the balance payment date.

A general level of fitness is required for this photography workshop. We will be spending long hours outdoors at the race circuit.

You will need to be capable of walking around the race circuit whilst carrying your photography gear.

This is a 24 hour race so you will need to be prepared for this.
