  • Throughout the weekend our photography tutor Dom Vincent will help you get to grips with some of the most challenging aspects and techniques required to photograph fast moving action, such as panning shots / motion blur, how to shoot editorial style images as well as some more creative styles, plus how to capture those more detailed, intricate paddock shots. Dom will take you to the very best vantage points across the circuit of which there are many to choose from at Donington.

    Not only this, but as with all our workshops and tours, you will be exceptionally well looked after. You will not have to worry about the logistics all weekend, as we have you covered, allowing you to completely relax and focus on the photography.

BTCC - What’s On Track:

  • BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) is a popular and highly competitive Motorsport series in the United Kingdom. It features a grid of high-performance touring cars racing on various circuits across the country. The championship is known for its close and thrilling racing, with a mix of professional and independent teams competing.

    The BTCC regulations typically involve cars that are based on mass-produced models, and the series has been a launching pad for many successful racing drivers. Teams in the BTCC often represent various manufacturers and run a variety of cars from different brands.

  • The Porsche Carrera Cup GB is a one-make racing series that takes place in the United Kingdom. It is a support series for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and is known for featuring Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

    The Carrera Cup GB is highly competitive and serves as a stepping stone for drivers aspiring to advance their careers in Motorsport. It attracts both professional and talented amateur drivers. The series exclusively uses Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, which are purpose-built race cars based on the iconic Porsche 911 platform.

  • The F4 British Championship is a single-seater junior open-wheel racing series held in the United Kingdom. The championship is designed as a stepping stone for young and talented drivers aspiring to progress through the motorsport ranks.

    The F4 British Championship uses single-seater race cars that are designed to provide a platform for young drivers to develop their skills in open-wheel racing.

    British F4 is often seen as a cost-effective entry point for drivers transitioning from karting to single-seater racing. Various teams participate in the championship, fielding drivers in identical cars, promoting fair competition and placing a greater emphasis on driver skill. Successful drivers in the F4 British Championship may progress to higher levels of Motorsport, including F3 (Formula 3) or other international racing series and possibly even Formula One.

  • The Porsche Sprint Challenge GB is a one-make racing series held in the United Kingdom. This series is designed to provide an accessible and competitive platform for drivers to showcase their skills in Porsche race cars.

BTCC Photography Workshop Features:

  • Learn and practice those crucial skills for capturing the fast moving world of Motorsport, such as panning and motion blur.

    Learn from award winning motorsport photographer Dom Vincent.

    Get to grips with how to capture fantastic images from behind the fence, proving that you really don't need media accreditation to take incredible images!

    Learn Motorsport composition skills, working with different lighting conditions, the best camera settings for fast moving action, different techniques such as panning and motion blur, focusing techniques plus some essential editing advice.

  • Experience race day hospitality hosted by BTCC race team Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport. This includes access to their garage, a hosted garage tour, grid walk, Q&A with the driver and food and drink.

    Weekend admission tickets also included.

  • Stay in luxury spa accommodation at the Radisson Blu, a short drive from the circuit.

    Rooms are private, double bedrooms (en-suite).

    The Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport is a hotel located near East Midlands Airport, just a short drive away from Donington Park circuit. It has 218 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, and a health club.

  • Breakfast included at the hotel each morning.

    Hospitality including food and drink provided on the Sunday by Laser Tools Racing.

  • Travel between the hotel and the race circuit is provided on the Saturday. Travel independently to the circuit on the Sunday (raceday).

    *Please ensure that you have the appropriate travel insurance in place at time of booking in order to cover yourselves in the hopefully unlikely circumstance that you find yourself unable to attend the weekend.

  • Camera Equipment:

    DSLR or Mirrorless camera system ideally with a choice of lenses. We suggest a decent telephoto lens such as a 70-200mm as a minimum, 24-70mm or equivalent and if you have one a 16-35mm. Also an extender if you have one. We also suggest a longer lens, 300mm+. This could be either a prime or zoom lens.

    Prime lenses are also a lovely addition if you have them both telephoto and wide angle.

    A monopod.

    Filters - NDs and Polariser.

    Plenty of fully charged camera batteries and plenty of SD cards.

    Other accessories such as: Rain cover, chargers, battery power bank.

    A decent camera rucksack is recommended.

    Please get in touch prior to booking to discuss your equipment if you are unsure. We can always try to help you out with some of the photography equipment should you need it.

    Outdoor Clothing:

    Waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, fleece, comfortable tops, comfortable shorts / trousers, comfortable trainers, flask, water bottle.

    Please bring appropriate clothing for long hours spent outdoors at the race circuit. The weather may change multiple times during the day.

BTCC Photography Workshop Itinerary

This is a rough itinerary for the weekend.

Once the full race weekend programme & timings have been released we will update accordingly.

  • Arrive from 4pm:

    6pm - Welcome meeting & pre-dinner drinks. We will discuss the weekend plans and what to expect.

    7pm - Dinner together as a group. Introduction to editing, photography and any other questions about the workshop.

  • 7am - Hotel breakfast (included).

    8am - Head to Donington Park race circuit. Paddock photography and morning on-track sessions.

    12pm - Lunch at circuit.

    1pm - Afternoon photography sessions.

    6:30pm - Head back to the hotel.

    8pm - Dinner.

    8:30pm - Relaxed editing session over drinks in hotel.

  • 7am - Hotel breakfast (included).

    8am - Head to Donington Park race circuit. Paddock photography and morning sessions.

    12pm - Lunch at circuit.

    1pm - Afternoon photography sessions.

    5pm - Finish / head home.

    *Please note there will be additional activities as outlined through our hospitality package. Details & timings of these will be available nearer the event.

 
 

FAQs

  • To get the most out of this weekend you should have a basic level of photography knowledge along with being comfortable using your camera.

    You should also have a strong interest in motorsport photography and be looking to learn and improve on specific skills relating to Motorsport photography.

  • You can secure your place on this motorsport photography workshop with just a £250.00 deposit.

  • The balance payment is due 8 weeks prior to the start date.

    An email will be sent out 2 weeks prior to this reminding you of the balance payment date.

    If you wish to discuss paying in instalments, then this can be arranged.

  • Yes, you can pay in instalments.

    You will need to place the initial deposit but then the remaining balance can be paid in instalments. The plan can be tailored to suit you.

    The balance must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the workshop start date.

  • A general level of fitness is required for this photography weekend. We will be spending long hours outdoors at the race circuit. You will need to be capable of walking around the race circuit whilst carrying your photography gear.

    We will ask you to confirm at the time of booking that you have the appropriate level of fitness to take part. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss.

  • Transport between the hotel and race circuit is provided on the Saturday and included in the cost. Travel independently on the Sunday (race day).

  • Yes, we are! We have financial protection in place through an ABTA approved provider.

    In fact, we are one of the only providers of photography tours and workshops here in the UK that financially protects their customers in line with the Package Travel Regulations 2018.
