Welcome to our Landscapes of Lisbon photography tour. On this 4 day and 3 night photography tour we will be exploring the beautiful and charming city of Lisbon along with it’s dramatic coastline.

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, located on the western Iberian Peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean. The city is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and picturesque landscapes. Lisbon is situated on the northern bank of the Tagus River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean and is built on seven hills, providing stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

With it’s iconic trams, narrow streets and historic buildings, Lisbon is a feast for any photographer. Outside of the city, there is beautiful and dramatic coastline and being west facing, provides stunning sunsets, perfect for photography.

On this tour, we will make the most of the beautiful morning sun by photographing sunrise at various locations across the city before travelling out to explore the many coastal photography opportunities that Lisbon’s Atlantic coast provides.

Read on below to find out just how incredible this part of the world is for photographers!

  • We will explore the Alfama District, the oldest district in Lisbon, known for its narrow streets, historic buildings, and the São Jorge Castle through this trip. Lisbon provides a beautiful blue hour along with some spectacular night time photography opportunities as well. We will photograph sunrise from the iconic Miradouro das Portas do Sol, a stunning vantage point for capturing the iconic sights of Lisbon and sunrise over the Alfama District. Other opportunites for catching stunning sunrise photographs are provided to us at the Vasco da Gama Bridge, Parco do Comercio or Maat, with it’s architectural design perfectly framing the 25 de Abril suspension bridge at sunrise.

We will visit Quinta Regaleira, a fascinating estate located near the historic centre of Sintra, a short drive from Lisbon. It is renowned for its eclectic architecture, lush gardens, and a network of mysterious tunnels and underground structures. Beneath the estate, there is an intricate network of tunnels and caves. These underground passages connect various points on the property, adding an element of mystery and intrigue. The main palace, also known as the Palácio dos Milhões (Millionaire's Palace), is the centerpiece of Quinta da Regaleira. It is adorned with turrets, gargoyles, and other decorative elements.

Sintra itself is a charming and picturesque town with UNESCO World Heritage status, known for its romantic architecture, historic sites, and lush natural surroundings. It is situated in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains on the Portuguese Riviera. The town center of Sintra is characterized by narrow winding streets, charming squares, and historic buildings. We can also visit the Sintra forest, part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, contributing to its reputation as a fairy-tale-like destination. The forested areas around Sintra offer a serene and enchanting environment, with diverse flora and fauna and many trails to explore. It is a protected area that encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including forests, cliffs, and coastline.

Also on the itinerary will be heading out to explore the fantastic beaches of Praia da Ursa and Praia da Adraga where we will spend time photographing sunset. With it’s dramatic rock formations, it is a magnificent location for sunset photography.

Other locations we might visit include Belem Tower (Torre de Belém): A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this fortress was built in the 16th century to guard the entrance to the city's harbour. Photograph the famous Elevador da Bica, a funicular that connects the lower streets near the Cais do Sodré district to the higher Bairro Alto district. Praia do Magoito (Magoito beach) is another beautiful afternoon location to explore in the Sintra region. Located at the end of a deep valley and enclosed by majestic cliffs it boasts fantastic views. You might also catch the surfers hitting the waves here. Azenhas do Mar is yet another stunning sunset location where a long exposure of the coast and town together provides a memorable composition.

As you can see, Lisbon and it’s surrounding coastal locations provides us a fantastic range of photographic possibilities. So why not join us for this incredible photography tour exploring a true gem of a destination for photographers.
