Led by the renowned local photographer and mountain guide, Helen Iles, this photography workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore some of the most breathtaking autumnal landscapes in the region.

Under Helen's expert guidance, you'll discover hidden gems and iconic locations that showcase Eryri’s stunning autumnal colors. As we venture through the rugged mountains and serene valleys, Helen will share fascinating tales of the region's rich history and mythology, adding an extra layer of depth to your workshop experience.

  • Helen is a photographer and mountain guide. She has been published in magazines such as 'The Great Outdoors' and 'Outdoor Photography' on many occasions, She has been shortlisted numerous times in 'Landscape Photographer of the Year' and 'Outdoor Photographer of the Year' and her work has been printed in the accompanying books.

    Born and brought up in Southern Snowdonia, Helen Iles is a qualified Mountain Leader  and active member of the local South Snowdonia Mountain Rescue Team. She has been a member of Barmouth RNLI crew for over 23 years. You may recognise her from the recent BBC Documentary series SOS Extreme Rescues.

  • Under the guidance of Helen Iles, you'll master camera settings, learn composition techniques, how to harness the natural light, how to exposure your camera along with exploring different photography styles. You will learn how to approach different compositions and learn how to plan for different locations plus much, much more.

    Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, our Eryri and Anglesey photography workshop provides a supportive and inspiring environment for all photographers.

  • Explore the very best photography locations across Eryri (Snowdonia) and Anglesey (Ynys Mon). From mountain vistas to stunning lighthouses, we will guide you to some of North Wales’s most photographic locations. We will visit some of the most iconic spots as well as introduce you to some lesser known locations too.

    Locations will include mountain vistas, lakes, rivers, gorges, waterfalls and lighthouses to name just a few.

  • Throughout the workshop you will travel around all photography locations in our comfortable minibus.

  • Our Eryri and Anglesey photography workshop has a maximum group size of just five people, allowing focused and undivided attention to everyone attending the workshop.

  • Transport to North Wales. Collection from Bangor train station can be arranged in advance if travelling by train.

    *Please ensure that you have the appropriate travel insurance in place at time of booking in order to cover yourselves in the hopefully unlikely circumstance that you find yourself unable to attend the workshop.

  • Camera Equipment:

    DSLR or Mirrorless camera system ideally with a choice of lenses. We suggest at least a 24-70mm or equivalent and if you have one a 16-35mm and/or 70-200mm.

    A tripod.

    Filters if you have them.

    Fully charged camera batteries and plenty of SD cards.

    Other accessories such as: Shutter release cable for your camera, rain cover.

    A decent camera/hiking rucksack is recommended.

    Please get in touch prior to booking to discuss your equipment if you are unsure. We can always try to help you out with some of the photography equipment should you need it.

    Outdoor Clothing:

    Waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, fleece, walking tops, walking boots, flask, water bottle, head torch, map, snacks.

    Please bring appropriate clothing for long hours spent outdoors in springtime conditions.

    We will send out a full detailed kit list nearer the time.

  • We have a number of locations that we can visit within Eryri National Park and across Anglesey.

    Possible locations include: Cwm Idwal, Betws-y-Coed, Dinorwic & Anglesey Barracks, Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse, South Stack Lighthouse, Aber Falls, Parys Mountain, Yr Wyddfa, Beddgelert and many more.

    NB: We won’t be climbing any mountains but we will be working on rough terrain and so a decent level of fitness is recommended along with some basic hill-walking experience.

    1pm - Welcome meeting.

    2pm - Location 1: We will head out for a gentle walk and introductory photography session.

    6pm - Return to hotel/dinner.

    8pm - Informal talk from Helen Iles about photography.

  • 8am - Hotel breakfast.

    10am - Location 2

    1pm - Lunch

    2pm - Location 3

    4pm - Location 4 - Sunset location (weather dependant)

    7pm - Dinner at hotel.

FAQs

  • Whilst some prior photography experience is always good, this photography workshop is suitable for everyone, no matter your photography experience level. We welcome both complete beginners through to more advanced photographers looking to refine their knowledge.

  • You can secure your place on our Eryri and Anglesey photography workshop with a £250.00 deposit.

  • The balance payment is due 8 weeks prior to the photography workshop start date.

    An email will be sent out 2 weeks prior to this reminding you of the balance payment date.

  • Yes, you can pay in instalments.

    If paying in instalments, the final payment needs to be made 8 weeks prior to the photography workshop start date.

    A tailored payment plan can be arranged.

  • There will be a lot of walking on this trip, so a decent level of fitness, especially with walking is recommended. However, we will not be walking up any mountains or undertaking any strenuous mountain walking.

    All locations that we visit will require on average a 30 minute walk in and out and will be on very good footpaths.

    We will ask you to confirm at the time of booking that you have the appropriate level of fitness to take part. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss.

  • Yes, we are! We have financial protection in place through an ABTA approved provider.

    In fact, we are one of the only providers of photography workshops and tours here in the UK that financially protects their customers in line with the Package Travel Regulations 2018.
